How to get the Barbie look

 I’m sure it’s not just me counting down to the release of the new Barbie movie. And now doing the makeup and hair for Oola’s Barbie inspired shoot has made me want to dial up the pink even more.

Here are my tips for creating Barbiecore makeup and hair…

Popping pink cheeks

Everyone is going to have their own take on the Barbie look that they love but for the Oola shoot, I made a bright bubblegum pink blush the star of the show.

Apply the Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush in Happy (if you have a deeper skin tone then try the shade Lucky) higher up on the cheeks - on top of the cheekbones and just under the eyes - to create a modern, lifted doll-like cheek.

Long lashes

So the focus remained on the cheeks, I used a taupe eye kohl (the MUFE Artist Pencil in Total Taupe) to subtly shade above and below the lashline. To separate and lengthen the lashes, I used my tried and true mascara from Sweed Lashes - the Lash Lift Mascara. 

Naturally pink lip

I didn’t want to dial up the pink everywhere, so I decided to go with a naturally defined pink lip. The outline of Rachel’s lips was done with Charlotte Tilbury Iconic Nude lip pencil, which I blended in before filling in with the Tilbury Pillow Talk lipstick to create a naturally pink lip.

Up the volume!

With the hair, we wanted volume, volume and more volume! To create a solid foundation for the waves, I blow dried the hair with some L’Oreal Tecni Art Full Volume Extra Mousse, lifting at the roots using the Fixbody Curved Vent Brush. 

I then added some soft waves using the Mark Hill Medium Curl Barrel tong, gently pulling each hair strand after curling to create a looser, undone, wave. After cooling, we shook out the waves and added even more volume with the Schwarzkopf Osis+ Soft Dust hair powder.
